Standing Committees

The objective of this committee is to brainstorm ideas, create policy, benefits and help the Executive Director to manage membership roster. The committee meets online quarterly and help recruiting during the events.

There are 3 membership types. The committee hosts membership meetings at least 4 times a year and recruitment events continuously at apaha.org/join-apaha.

Meet The Team

Luis M Chen

Committee Chair

Luis wears many hats in helping community to thrive. He works in the IT field and founded Asian Pacific American Employee Resource Group (APA ERG) Houston Chapter at Comcast. He has a cat and he loves gardening. His favorite vacation spot was Hawaii and became a permanent resident before moving to Houston.

David H Nguyen

Committee Co-Chair

David is a Medical Technologist - Blood Bank, Texas Children's Hospital. His favorite show is "The Last of Us". His most memorable vacation spot is in Australia. He loves Wings and listening to EDM. Fun fact about David is... he has completed a full marathon.

Alan Steinberg

Committee Member

Alan Steinberg, Ph.D. is a passionate civic leader with the desire to improve the Houston community through education, advocacy, and civic action by connecting people who can turn challenges into opportunities. Alan serves as the President/CEO of the West Houston Association working with industry leaders who collaborate, educate and advocate to improve the quality of life, experience, and opportunity for 2,000,000+ people who live, work and play across the 1,000+ square mile Greater West Houston Region.

Penina Partsch

Committee Member

Penina is a warehouse manager for an art and frame gallery and works with TAPA Houston. Her memorable vacation spot was a trip with her sisters to Spain. She was raised from the time she could walk as a performer in her family’s Polynesian entertainment company.

Rohini Malhotra

Committee Member

Rohini is an administrator at a corporation. Her most memorable vacation spots are London and Hawaii. She has a pet and loves seafood. Jazz is her favorite music genre.

Tommy Wan

Committee Member

Tommy enjoys listening to Classical and Popular Music. His favorite TV Show is "Parks and Recreation" and his favorite vacation spot is New Orleans. He loves Chinese food. He is currently a Texas House of Representatives, Legislative Aide. One fun fact about Tommy is... "I fly planes".

Genay Byndon

Committee Member

Genay is a Community Account Professional at Comcast. Her most memorable vacation spot was Italy. She grew up with several dogs, hamsters and fish. Her favorite dish is seafood. She loves watching a law drama called Suits on USA Network. She has an interesting fact about her car, it has over 400,000 miles.

Cathy Podell

Committee Member

Cathy has been working with the Asian Community in Houston for several years to help create a greater awareness of this amazing cultural destination in the City of Houston. She worked at the Chinese Community Center for 2 years prior to the pandemic. She worked with the Asia Society Texas Center to create a Virtual Asiatown Tour during the pandemic. She started her company, Houston Asiatown Tours in 2021 to continue to educate people about our Asian Community in Houston.
